West Country Bungalow

Read about our design to make a West Country bungalow more accessible.

West Country Bungalow

This project required the team to consider adaptations to a bungalow in the West Country. This property needed to be made accessible for the client when using a wheelchair and to also allow support from daytime carers. The property also needed to be easy to maintain and provide a safe and secure place to live.

The design

The approach to the property was made wheelchair accessible, including a safe transfer area to/from a vehicle. A resin compound drive was used for the driveway, which would match the existing building, creating a more seamless design.

The outside space was remodelled so that it was low maintenance to reduce the amount of gardening required. A new section of raised decking was created to provide a space for the client to enjoy the outdoor area. This amenity space was accessed from both the front and rear of the property via a new external ramp.

All internal areas were made wheelchair accessible, including the kitchen. An extension was added to provide a wetroom to ensure the client had full independence with personal hygiene.

The Idapt Design team were delighted to help create a comfortable and practical family home.
